# Mac login with Primo guide & FAQ

> Step-by-step instructions for employees to register their Mac and sign in to it with their Primo account, with answers to common questions.

This guide shows you how to connect your Mac to your Primo account, so that you can unlock it by signing in with Primo.

  Your Mac must run macOS 27 or later and be connected to the internet for the first sign-in. If your Mac never asks you to register, contact your IT team.

## Register your Mac

  <Step title="Open the registration request">
    Once your IT team turns on Mac login with Primo, your Mac shows a **Registration required** notification. Click it.

    If you missed it, open **System Settings > Users & Groups** to start the registration from there.

  <Step title="Sign in with your Primo account">
    A sign-in window opens. Enter your work email, then your Primo password or the code sent to your email. If your company offers it, click **Google** or **Microsoft** instead.

  <Step title="Check that your Mac is registered">
    The window closes once the registration is done. In **System Settings > Users & Groups**, your account shows as registered.

If you signed in with your Primo password, it is now your Mac password too.

## Sign in to your Mac

* **At the lock screen:** click **Sign in with Primo** and sign in as you did during the registration. Your Mac password and Touch ID keep working too.
* **Every few days:** your Mac asks you to sign in with Primo again, even when it is unlocked. Your IT team sets how often.
* **Offline:** your Mac password unlocks your Mac without an internet connection, for a number of days your IT team sets.

## FAQ

### Does signing in with Primo change my Mac password?

Yes, when you sign in with your Primo password: it becomes your Mac password. Signing in with Google or Microsoft does not change your Mac password.

### Why do Google and Microsoft ask for my account every time?

The window macOS opens for the sign-in forgets your previous sign-ins, so each one starts from scratch, two-step verification included. This makes sure the person unlocking the Mac is you.

### I changed my Primo password. What happens to my Mac password?

Your Mac keeps your old password until your next Primo sign-in on it. That sign-in makes your new Primo password your Mac password.

### My Mac shows "Sign-in site not allowed"

Your Mac blocked a page of the sign-in. Unlock your Mac with your Mac password, then contact your IT team.

### My sign-in fails right after I enter my password

Your Primo password may not meet your Mac's password rules. Unlock your Mac with your Mac password, then contact your IT team.

### Who do I contact if something goes wrong?

Contact your IT team – Primo Support is only for company admins.
